Alan Curtis, MD

About me

Dr. Curtis, a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon, excels in arthroscopic procedures, with a particular focus on rotator cuff repairs and revisions. He practices at New England Baptist Hospital and several local outpatient surgery centers, bringing advanced shoulder care to his patients.


His academic foundation was established at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he completed both his medical degree and residency. Dr. Curtis further specialized through a fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute Sports Medicine. Beyond his clinical duties, Dr. Curtis is deeply involved in medical education as a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine and is a pioneering figure in shoulder surgery research and education.


Dr. Curtis has been a cornerstone in sports medicine, serving as the team physician for the Boston Celtics since 1994, and founding the annual Boston Sports Medicine Symposium. His leadership extends to his role as President of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), beginning in May 2024, and as an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). (AAOS). He is also a fellow of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS).
